Building mines has been the foundation of Banlaw’s success and remains our core competency. Versatility and flexibility are the key drivers of this business segment. We have extensive experience across West Africa and the list of projects we have worked on reveals we don’t shy away from challenging conditions.
We have served a range of clients across Ghana, Burkina Faso, Cote d’Ivoire, Liberia and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). Banlaw has completed much of the infrastructure at the Gold Fields Tarkwa mine in Ghana, including plant site expansion, process ponds, leach pad construction and tailings dam construction, among other works. In Burkina Faso, we have worked with Blackthorn Resources Perkoa zinc mine to construct leach pads and process ponds. In the Democratic Republic of Congo, we completed one of our largest and most successful projects to date. The Twangiza gold project involved the upgrading of 40-kilometres of roads, 600,000m3 of excavation work to create a platform for the gold processing plant, as well as 5,500m3 of concrete works, among other things. The project was finished on budget and ahead of schedule. A full list of projects completed can be found here.
Over the past decade, Banlaw has established itself as a leading provider of contract mining in West Africa. Knowledge and efficiency are the key drivers of this business segment. Major mining firms from all over the world and publicly listed junior and mid-tier mining companies come to us for contract mining services. Our expertise has led to the successful completion of many challenging mining projects.
Banlaw offers safe contract mining services across west and central Africa. Whether the material is free dig or hard rock requiring drill and blast, we have the personnel, equipment and maintenance facilities to complete the project on time and on budget. We have the capacity for contracts up to one million cubic metres per month. We own an extensive, well-maintained fleet of equipment and also offer clients equipment hire and supplementary mining service, whereby additional equipment can be provided to mines requiring short or medium term support to their owner mining operations. Banlaw can also provide feasibility studies and budget pricing for new or expanding mines. Past clients include Newcrest Mining Ltd, Banro Corporation, Avocet Mining Plc and Cluff Gold Plc.
Non-mining civil works is a growing area of importance for Banlaw. Given our extensive portfolio of mining civil works and our in-depth understanding of African business environments, clients are increasingly seeking our services in this area.
Non-mining civil works that have been completed include the construction of a breakwater at Half Asini in Ghana, for a power barge. In Burkina Faso, we constructed a concrete spillway on the Gomde Barrage in the North of Burkina Faso. We are in discussions with potential clients in the oil and gas industry, power generation and heavy infrastructure industries.
